Guides by Guides: Andromeda

Ngungun (pronounced noo noo) is one of the shorter peaks of the Glass House Mountains, making it easily accessible to the public. Along with the upgraded walking track, this is one of the most approachable summit hikes of South East Queensland. This is the go to crag for first time Sport Leaders. This single pitch crag has 45 well protected climbs ranging from grades 5-19. The all day shade will give you flexibility with timing, however it will take some time to dry off if there has been rainfall. Due to this, particularly in the summer months don’t forget mosquito spray. Remember to keep this spray well away from your climbing gear!!

Access

Andromeda is located on Mt Ngungun, Glass House Mountains. With no 4WD needed, park at the Summit Track Carpark. The carpark can get busy due to the popularity of the accessible hiking track, so we would recommend arriving early. The short walk-in from the carpark is approximately 15-20 minutes on a maintained walking track.

Facilities & Ethics

Mount Ngungun is located on the  traditional country of the Kabi Kabi people.

There is a drink tap at the start of the trail, however there are no bathroom facilities. The closest toilets are located at the Glass House township (5 minutes drive from the crag), so prepare accordingly with a walkout bush bathroom kit if you plan to go on the mountain.

Protection

Well protected with both fixed hangers and ring bolts. There are 4 climbs in the Mini Adventure Sector that use bolt runners (carrot bolts).
