OUR GUIDES

Our awesome guides are highly trained, fully accredited, and heaps of fun! They’ll teach you everything you need to know, as well as take care of the safety procedures and provide all the gear, including harness, helmet, climbing shoes, and all other technical equipment.

WHAT TO BRING

Although your guide will provide all the safety gear, you’ll still need to bring a few bits and pieces, including:

  • Non-restrictive clothing. Check the weather forecast to get an idea of the conditions, but remember that the summit is exposed and weather can change quickly, so a light jacket or wind jacket can be handy
  • Enclosed footwear with grip such as hiking boots or runners, sturdy enough to handle a rough trail
  • A backpack big enough to carry all your gear plus some of the required safety equipment (e.g. ropes)
  • 2-3 litres of water, hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, sunglasses
  • If you have some climbing gear, bring it along so your guide can check it out and let you know if it’s good to go
  • Your own food and snacks, full of energy to keep you happy and psyched!

FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

You’ll need a moderate level of fitness for this activity. To access the climbing areas, a hike of about 30 minutes is required, often along steep and uneven trails. You’ll also require some prior climbing experience, whether in the gym or outdoors. Any Mount Beerwah climb involves a long day on the wall with a decent amount of mileage.

How fit strong do I need to be?

Absolutely anyone can climb!
There is no strength requirement to take part in a climbing activities. Climbing is more about problem solving and finding your own way to the top of a climb. No experience necessary, our guides will show you all you need to know to have a great day. There is always more than one way to complete a climb!

  • At Kangaroo Point, an average level of fitness is required as there’s no hike to get to the cliff.
  • In the Glass House, we recommend a moderate level of fitness as the hike to the summit can be strenuous and you will be carrying a backpack with some gear.
I'm scared of heights, should I do this activity?

For many, going climbing  is a great way to face their fears. It makes for a safe and secure environment in which you can experience moving through height with a supportive framework of guides and friends to help you through.

  • Our maximum harness waist size is 120cm.
What is belaying?

Climbing is a partner sport - one person climbs whilst the other belays. Belaying is when you are in control of the other end of the rope. You have a device which allows you to remove ‘slack’ from the rope, keeping the climber nice and tight so that they don't fall if they let go. Belaying is a simple process. All our climbing activities begin with a safety and belay induction.

What is bouldering?

Bouldering is climbing without a rope on typically lower rock formations. The climber is kept safe via a series of pads (boulder mats) that protect your fall, as well as being spotted by other participants. Spotting technique and mat placement is taught as part of our bouldering activity induction.

What do I wear?

Clothes that allow freedom of movement, enclosed shoes (with grip), long hair tied back, remove jewellery eg. rings/watches/large piercings.

Do you provide climbing shoes?
  • Yes, our guide brings climbing shoes to each activity. Please bring socks!
  • A range of different sizes and styles will be provided, and your guide will do their best to find you a match; however please note that we cannot guarantee an exact fit. Please wear enclosed shoes (with grip) as a back up.
What happens if it's raining? Or too hot? Or storming?? (Oh, my!)

Our activities are run in the great outdoors and will normally operate in all but exceptional circumstances If these circumstances arise your activity will be postponed and rescheduled for a later date. All decisions are made in the interest of staff and participant safety.

Unless you hear from us, assume that your activity is going ahead. You can view our full weather policy in our Activity T&Cs.
